Weighted Position = ∑ (Position_i × Impressions_i) / ∑ Impressions_i
Google Search Console's default average position computes a simple unweighted arithmetic mean across every single query that generated even 1 impression. If your core commercial keyword with 50,000 impressions ranks at Position 2.0, but a longtail obscure query with 2 impressions ranks at Position 80.0, the simple average is 41.0. This severely distorts real performance. Impression-weighting multiplies each ranking by its impression volume, reflecting real user search visibility.
